| On May 9th, 1942 law 152 was approved allowing the association of organizations with non-profit purposes to offer medical services to the community. Under this law, La Cruz Azul de Puerto Rico, Inc. was organized and started their services on April 1943. |
| This organization began with a donation of $5,400, which was given by their founders, with the outstanding contribution of
Dr. Manuel De La Pila Iglesias. This newly created organization was known as the Puerto Rico Hospital Services Association, which then became a member of the Blue Cross Association and changed its name to La Cruz Azul de Puerto Rico, Inc.
